Pre-orders for MFC Simcoe SMaSH Wort are now being accepted until October 31st! Read on....
Get in on the holiday action, feel the love, have a pint with friends and let me make some great wort for you all at the same time. The timing of this wort release is designed for your finished beer to be at its prime for festive holiday drinking.
What it is:
MFC (Merry_Fuckin_Christmas) Simcoe SMaSH Wort will be a full batch of Double Simcoe SMaSH I'll be brewing up at the Hart and Thistle on Friday November 13th, I'll continue with the full boil and hop additions Saturday after an overnight simmer. Then it'll be pumped through our heat exchanger directly into your fermentors @ 68F. Show up at the brewpub with your sanitized, portable fermentor and have a pint at the bar while I fill it for you. Pricing includes 6 oz (each) of Simcoe Hop pellets for dry-hopping at home after fermentation. For those that need yeast I will have at least one strain of liquid slurry available but I'd really like to see you all use your own favorite strain. (Read: Multiple Double Simcoe SMaSH tasting over the holidays!).
This is the easiest and only legal way to get insanely fresh, insanely hoppy and insanely delicious hand-crafted microbrewery wort into your fermentor! The finished beer will be a very hoppy double IPA clocking in at a potential 8.3% ABV and a calculated 250 IBUs.
When & Where it is:
Saturday November 14th 2009 @ 2:00pm @ the Hart and Thistle.
Price:
$60.00 per 23 L wort. Paypal and CC payments accepted below, your name will be added to the list for the Nov 14th 'fill-up'. That's ~ $375 worth of Double Simcoe SMaSH if you were to buy it at the bar. There's no taxes or fees if you ferment it yourself.
23L MFC SMaSH Wort
My batch size will be ~ 450L. That's only about 19 x 23L fermentors to fill with the bittersweet love so get your pre-order in.

Great idea. I'm working nights that day, but I should be able to find someone to grab a carboy for me and pitch some yeast. A bit of 1272 I think would be good, or maybe 3522. What temp are you mashing at?
Perfect. I'll mash in at 152F but the long simmer has some effects, so expect a little higher FG than you might otherwise get on a wort composed of pale ale only malt.
Cheers
I'm working that day too Greg.... at 2pm I would normally be home starting to pack up PA gear, but I can be at the H&T if I can make it a quick and efficient drive-by.
I often default to 1056 AA Yeast because I like relatively clean ales, and may end up reusing the yeast. Would you recommend something else? If I do another beer afterward it will likely be a light ale because all I have is nasty IPAs right now.
Brews: We can definitely hook you up with a quick drive-by fill.
As for the yeast, my current SMaSH was fermented on Ringwood, 1056 would be good as would 1272, 1332, BRY264 and likely a slew of others, that said it's a fairly big beer that will take a bit of a tole on the yeast so repitching from it might not produce the best results. It's all up to you.
Ah. Cool. I wouldn't have known not to reuse it. Guess that's why you're the brains of the outfit... :)
I'm psyched. Keep us posted.
