'Double Citra SMaSH' DIPA is the latest to join our SMaSH beer series and is coming to the taps Tuesday April 20th 2010 at 5:00pm just in time for Hoppy Tuesday (save $2 per glass on our handcrafted brews every Tuesday).
This time our Single Malt and Single Hop beer is brewed with all Citra hops and Canadian Pale Ale malt. It's mash-hopped, 1st-wort-hopped and dry-hopped with massive amounts of the new Citra cultivar (see specs below) and is calculated to 131 IBU's. Reminiscent of 5-alive on 'roids you're all gonna want to get down to the pub to try it on for size before it disappears.
Vital Stats:
Gravity - 17P/1.070
FG (for the idiot that won't beLiEve) - 3.5P/1.014
IBU's - 100+ (131 Calculated)
Hop Rate - 5 lbs/bbl
ABV - 7.5 %
Colour ~ 9.0 SRM

For colour comparison here's a shot of the Double Citra SMaSH wort before and after a wee simmerin'.....
Citra is a hybrid of a number of different hops. The breakdown is as follows:
50% Hallertauer Mittelfrüh
25% U.S. Tettnanger
25% East Kent Golding, Bavarian, Brewers Gold, and other unknown hops.
Citra™,
HBC 394
Citra™ is a
special aroma hop variety developed by the Hop Breeding Company (a joint
venture between John I. Haas, Inc. and Select Botanicals Group,
LLC). It was released in 2007. Citra™ has fairly high
alpha acids and total oil contents with a low percentage of cohumulone content.
The variety imparts interesting citrus and tropical fruit characters to beer.
