Maritime Malt Bomb - IPA

Born on March 29th 2011

Ladies and gentlemen, back by popular demand....

....we have another India Pale Ale of gigantic and tasty proportions. 'Maritime Malt Bomb' IPA is yet another SMaSH brew, this time around the 2-row malted barley being 100% Maritime grown taking us one step closer to an all local product.

I've utilized a variety of hop cultivars on this one technically making it a different sort of SMaSH, the 'Single Malt and Several Hop' sort.  Now, some of you that are familiar with my IPAs might be wondering what on earth I am doing calling it a malt bomb and an IPA in the same sentence. The fact is this is a dedicated maritime malt beer as well as a bomb, a 7 lb per barrel calculated theoretical 279 IBU hop-bomb to be more precise. And so there we have it, Maritime Malt Bomb hits the taps this Tuesday March 29th at 4:00pm. Prepare yourself for a hop-bombing. So fresh, so hoppy, so luscious.

Enjoy.

Vital Stats:
Gravity - 17.2P/1.071
IBUs ~ 100+ (279 calculated)
Hop Rate – 7.0 lbs/bbl
ABV - 8.0 %
Hops -  Glacier, Newport, Nugget, Columbus

1814 Porter

Born on March 22nd 2011

On October 17th 1814, over 1,470,000 L of Porter at the Horse Shoe Brewery burst out of several vats flooding streets in St. Giles Parish, London, England. The tsunami of black beer destroyed several buildings and eight people lost their lives. Read the complete and incredibly detailed account of the disaster right here.

To commemorate this horrific loss of life and beer we have '1814 Porter' on tap at the pub Tuesday March 22nd at high noon.

The complete recipe for this beer is posted right here.

Enjoy.

It's Hoppy Tuesday

It's Tuesday again folks and you know what that means. Okay maybe some of you don't know - every Tuesday evening from 5:00pm until close the Hart & Thistle handcrafted beers are discounted by $2 per glass. We also have some great munchie specials to pair up with the beers on the cheap. This incredible phenomenon is commonly known as 'Hoppy Tuesday'.

Tonight I'm tapping something special for y'all - an aged keg of the one and only Doppelgänger imperial smoked porter fortified with Smokehead single malt scotch whiskey which was originally tapped last October, now don't go too crazy on it, it's 9% ABV. Read more about the beer from my original post here.

Some of you may have been expecting to see the new all Cascade IPA on tap but... Houston, we have a problem! There's a god-damned bug in my beer so I put it straight down the drain. The English ale yeast strain I used decided it was time for a little diacetyl-bomb action. I suspect I picked up a bug along the way somewhere which, can happen to the best of us when least expected. Meanwhile please accept my apologies for the lack of hops on tap until I can have the next upcoming beers conditioned and on tap in a week or so. After all, life is far too short to drink mediocre beer.
